Maths Trip to Christ College, Oxford Posted: 27/01/23

For me, the best part of the day was the mock tutorial we had with the eccentric Dr James Munro

On Wednesday 25 January, 14 of our Year 12 Maths students went on a trip to Christ Church College, Oxford to get a feel for studying there.  The day involved a tour of the college, a Q and A session with some current students (including a former Wren student – Alexandra Easton) and a brilliant tutorial style Maths session led by James Munro.  We even had lunch in the dining hall which inspired the dining hall design in Hogwarts.

Our students had a fantastic day and were given lots of useful information and about the application and interview process at Oxford. Below you can read one of our students experience of the day:

I will always be grateful for the opportunity to take part in this trip.  It was an enriching experience for every one of us, due to the welcoming atmosphere, the kindness of the session leaders and the amazing food.  For me, the best part of the day was the mock tutorial we had with the eccentric Dr James Munro, as he made every moment enjoyable while still stretching and challenging our understanding of Mathematics.

A very valuable part of the day was the tour we were invited on by current students at Oxford, which helped educate us on the everyday life of an Oxford student and reassuring us of the achievability of such a position, with a lot of hard work of course!

All in all I feel incredibly lucky to have been on this trip and eagerly anticipate my next opportunity to join the Academy on a similar trip.  Thomas S, 12 Strand
