Gender and Class Divides in ‘An Inspector Calls’.

On Thursday 8 February, over 140 enthusiastic Year 11 students signed up for our annual GCSE English Masterclasses in preparation for their forthcoming examinations. Our masterclasses are aimed exclusively at Year 11 and will be delivered throughout the year by various members of the English faculty. The aim is to develop students’ knowledge, as well as enrich their English learning. All the masterclasses are voluntary, so it was amazing to see so many students showing commitment to their English learning. Below you can read a statement from one of our students who attended the class.

It was a fantastic, fast-paced, lecture style experience that gave a lot of extra details on the gender and class divides in An Inspector Calls. It was particularly helpful as it built on our previous knowledge of the text and gave students new vocabulary that we can use to improve our writing. Moreover, it gave significant information on the context and it also went over details that we have learnt before. The masterclass was well presented and gave all ranges of students the opportunity to boost their knowledge and revise a key text for our exams. I look forward to the next one. Andy P, 11 Strand
