Jack Petchey Awards Posted: 2/12/22

These awards are about recognising students for their excellence outside of the classroom, rather than just academic brilliance.

Each year, Wren Academy run the Jack Petchey awards.  These awards are about recognising students for their excellence outside of the classroom, rather than just academic brilliance. Each winner is given a grant of £300 to gift to a department of their choosing. During the Autumn Term, we received many nominations for students who are all doing fantastic things around the Academy and within their own communities. The winners are as follows:

Hana M, 8 Ludgate - donated her grant to the Drama department

Hana has voluntarily supported a student who has recently come from Afghanistan who does not speak English. This has involved her giving up her free time to translate for this student to enable her to access her lessons, as well as making her feel welcome to our community. Hana has been helping this student both inside and outside the classroom, which demonstrates both selflessness and kindness beyond expectation.

Purecine H, 11 Piccadilly - donated her grant to the Science department

Pure on a daily basis faces an incredible amount of adversity. This year she has become a vital young carer for her young sibling. Pure continues to go above and beyond for her family and wanting to engage in support for herself. This year we have seen Pure committing to and participating in the school show. For Pure this was something which takes her out of her comfort zone but is something she wanted to do to better herself. She is also finding time to work hard and dedicate herself to her Year 11 studies, and frequently remains behind after school finishes to complete extra revision.

Mustafa M, 11 Bow - donated his grant to the RS department

Mustafa has shown a fellow student lots of kindness since they injured their leg and have been in a wheelchair. He has helped to push them around school in their wheelchair and assist them throughout the school day. He has made sure that this student has felt comfortable and built up their confidence to adjust back to the school day, helping them to arrive to lessons punctually.
