Our virtual final included an eclectic mix of genres

Earlier this term we had over 60 students audition to take part in our annual Young Musician of the Year Competition.  Having had limited opportunities to perform in the Academy this year, we were delighted to see so many students demonstrating their talents over the five day audition period.  The level of talent was exceptional and it was extremely hard to choose our finalists.  After much debate within the department, we managed to whittle down our performers to our final 10 students. The final was divided into two categories: Vocalist and Instrumentalist of the Year.

Our virtual final included an eclectic mix of genres and choosing a final winner for each category was even harder than choosing our initial finalists.  Our instrumental category was won by Bethan, 10 Holborn, who performed a very complex piece of music whilst showcasing excellent dexterity and musicianship.  Our vocal category was won by Hope, 7 Piccadilly, who really portrayed the emotion and message of the song, engaging our virtual audience whilst also demonstrating excellent vocal technique.

Well done to all the finalists and winners on some outstanding performances.

Our Summer Showcase also included performances from our Year 9 Band, as well as Holly, 10 Ludgate, who was last year’s Young Musician (vocal category) winner.  We look forward to many more performance opportunities next year and cannot wait to involve as many students as possible in our varied enrichment and extracurricular program.
