The last half term of the year started with a bang, as on Monday 6 June staff and students made their way to Allianz Park, for the 8th annual Inter-House Athletics competition. Students and staff adorned themselves with their house colours and the stage was set for a fierce day of competition.

The day started with some impressive hurdles races and the Year 7 boys headed to their field events. All students took part in a track and a field event, not only showing their competitive side but also encouraging and supporting their fellow competitors. As the competition progressed, Holborn took an early lead. In the glorious weather students ran, jumped and threw in order to score points for their house. This year, for the first time, points scored were for distances and times achieved, rather than position.

Some notable performances came from Shane Murphy (Year 7 Boys’ Javelin), Amber Duverney and Evie Barter (Year 8 Girls’ Hurdles), Jody Walker-Payne (Year 9 Girls’ 100m), Massi Symeou (Year 9 Boys’ 800m) and Sophia Taglia (Year 10 Girls’ 200m) with many other students setting personal bests in their events.

The day culminated in the relays, with Ludgate making a good showing in the younger age groups. The final race of the day was the staff relay. As staff nervously made their way to their marks, the students cheered and chanted. On the finish line Walbrook had a considerable win, something they will no doubt remind us of for the next year!

Once the points were checked and verified, the presentation took place. Congratulations to Bow, who won the event for the first time.
