This course aims to: |
This course provides an engaging and relevant introduction to the world of sport. It incorporates important aspects of the industry, such as fitness testing and training for sport and exercise, the psychology of sport, practical sports performance and sports leadership. It enables you to develop and apply your knowledge, while also developing a range of relevant practical, communication and technical skills.
We will be studying: |
One lesson a week will be practical, with students being given time to further develop their practical performance in a range of sports best suited to the range of the group. The other lesson a week will be theory based. These will cover the key areas of:
- Training for physical fitness • Fitness testing
- Characteristics of successful sports leaders
- Planning and leading a sports session
At certain points throughout the year, the theory lesson will also be practical based, in order to provide students the opportunity to lead their planned session and to carry out different fitness tests.

This course aims to not only further develop sporting ability but to also introduce a wide range of topics that are studied at BTEC Sport and beyond. This course is also ideal for those who enjoy PE and sport and wish to increase their participation in physical PE lessons throughout Year 9. Taking part in sport and physical activity is fantastic for your well-being.
What career options are opened up by the course? |
BTEC Level 1 / 2 in Sport is not just an excellent base for an A Level in Physical Education or a BTEC Level 3 in Sport, it can take you much further. Beyond Sixth Form study, studying PE / Sport can lead on to university degrees in sports science, sports management, healthcare, or exercise and health. Physical Education / Sport can also complement further study in Biology, human biology, Physics, Psychology, nutrition, Sociology, teacher training and many more. The transferable skills you learn through your study of Sport, such as decision making and independent thinking are also useful in any career path you choose to take.
