LBB Environmental Awareness Day

On Thursday 4 May officials from the London Borough of Barnet came to Woodhouse Road to make drivers aware of the harmful emissions to children and the environment when sitting in their car with the engines running idle.

Two of our Youth Travel Ambassadors; Harry and Matthew helped them make drivers aware that it is better for their cars and the environment to turn off their engines when dropping off or collecting students from the school.  Apart from the health benefits to people and the local area, turning off their engines and re-starting them again should also save them money as this uses less fuel than sitting idle.

They were also helping to promote the Walk to School Week from the 15-19 May.  Not only does walking to school make students feel happier, healthier and more alert from the beginning of the day but also decreases harmful pollution and congestion on the roads around the school.

If you do get a lift to school every day, try and change your routine by walking or cycling to school 1 or 2 days a week and see what difference that makes to the way you feel each day.
