Year 7 trip to Kew Gardens Posted: 5/07/21

We were able to see a special bio-diversity installation called the Secret World of Plants.

For the first time, Year 7 Wren Academy students had the chance to go on a school trip to Kew Gardens.

On the day, students were given an Activities Booklet in their classrooms before setting off to Kew Gardens by coach. These booklets included a variety of tasks for the students to complete throughout the day. The whole cohort was divided into small groups, which ensured that the students were able to explore this wonderful venue at the pace that suited them best.

Within Kew Gardens, we were able to see a special bio-diversity installation called the Secret World of Plants, which allowed us to learn why different plant habitats are so important to us and how they can be protected. We were able to go through some of the glass houses to see even more varieties of plants. The students enjoyed activities such as drawing the front elevation of the newly redecorated Temperate House and trying out sitting in an unusual chair with a Please Be Seated title. The weather was kind to us, so we were able to have a nice lunch break sitting on the grass in the gardens.

Several children helped members of staff to read a map and navigate around the Gardens, which we found very useful indeed. We had a great day and many of us are already keen to go back again soon to see those wonderful plants in different colours during a different season.
