What evidence do we have that teenagers’ brains are different from adults’ brains? Briefly, why do you think that teenagers might need brains which work differently? This is the question that has been taxing 60 Year 9 students this half term.

What evidence do we have that teenagers’ brains are different from adults’ brains?  Briefly, why do you think that teenagers might need brains which work differently?

This is the question that has been taxing 60 Wren Year 9 students this half term.  It was set as an essay title for a competition run by the World Class Schools project to which Wren belongs.  Our students have been incredibly diligent in researching and writing their essays which has hopefully been an enriching experience for them.  Three essays from our shortlist have been forwarded to the competition’s final round where they will be judged against entries from other World Class Schools.  Please see below links to the entire Wren shortlist which contains some superb pieces of writing.  They are so good that we would like as many people as possible to read them.

The competition will be judged by Dr David Bainbridge, Director of Studies in Veterinary Medicine at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.  Part of the prize for the winning essay will be a visit to Cambridge to spend a day with Dr Bainbridge.

As well as our Year 9 students who have worked so hard, special thanks must go to Mr Malik, Ms Smith and Ms Brazil for supervising the essays and to Mr Booker for helping to choose the Wren shortlist.
