Wren Historians set for Oxford Posted: 4/10/16

The History department celebrated another year of fantastic results here at Wren and we would like to thank students for their hard work over the course of their studies. In particular, the department would like to commend Emily Foster and Ben Graham who will be leaving Barnet for the dreaming spires of Oxford.
The History department celebrated another year of fantastic results here at Wren and we would like to thank students for their hard work over the course of their studies. In particular, the department would like to commend Emily Foster and Ben Graham who will be leaving Barnet for the dreaming spires of Oxford.

Both students are exceptional historians who, throughout their time at Wren, showed a real commitment and passion for the subject. As a result of their hard work, they have been able to take up the opportunity to read History at some of Britain’s most prestigious colleges. Emily will be based in Queen’s College while Ben will be studying at Christ Church College.

The application process itself involved submitting essays completed as part of their A-Level, as well preparing for and excelling in an academically challenging aptitude test. In addition, both pupils journeyed to Oxford to meet and interview with academics and tutors from the colleges where they had to speak about historical sources and showcase their critical thinking skills. During practice interviews with the Head of History at Berkhamsted, as well as with the History team at Wren, we felt a real joy in hearing Ben and Emily speak beyond their years with wisdom and wit about their subject. It was clear that the wider reading both had completed outside the classroom, as well as work experience at some of London’s museums, were key in helping the students develop their passion and understanding of History. We wish them every success over the coming years and look forward to hearing about their experiences in the coming years.
