DaCapo Music Service

DaCapo are a charity dedicated to supporting staff run child friendly music programmes in schools and youth groups across Barnet. We are delighted that DaCapo have agreed to base themselves at Wren and will be working out of a base in our new primary building. With DaCapo so close at hand, we will be able to take advantage of some of their services. They will begin by working with children in our primary classes, embedding music from their earliest years in school. They are also working with some of our secondary students in Orchestra enrichment. As our relationship with DaCapo develops we may well see them working with more of our secondary students.

All Through School

Our primary building was completed last term and we are delighted with the fantastic facilities we will now be able to offer all of the primary age children attending Wren. The building has also resulted in us gaining an additional drama studio which Ms Leader and Ms Taiwo are very excited by.

At the start of term our second cohort of Reception children joined the primary. We now have Reception and Year 1, a total of 120 children. Our new pupils have made an excellent start.

Use of Tablets for Learning

Many schools are realising the potential of electronic tablet devices in assisting teaching and learning opportunities and in providing a greater variety of learning approaches for students.  Following extensive research last academic year, we have decided to trial the use of tablet devices for learning across four departments: Maths, PE, Modern Languages and Product Design.  Teachers in these departments have been issued with a tablet device and will be exploring the range of applications which can be used to support learning in their subjects.  If the trial proves successful then we will move towards a position where a tablet device becomes a mandatory part of school equipment, starting with Year 7 in 2017.  Clearly this is a big project and a significant development for the Wren community.  Parents will be kept informed of how this initiative progresses throughout the year.
